2003 - current - Freelance Visual FX Artist

Outlander , Senior Lighting TD

I arrived as a lighter but quickley had to become very invloved in getting the render farm consistant and also modifying and creating some tools to help the lighting team. I sorted out shaders and rigs for a large spaceship crash sequence. The biggest attention was how to render such big scenes. Also organised one of our td's to create some sl shaders with various outputs aswell as doing some simple hacking myself. I composited our largest shot of 5 spaceships chasing down and shooting 3 Alien beasts on an Alien planet. We ued Mayaman and Air for all lighting apart from efx.

I was given a fulltime position to help our new Pipeline TD create and cleanup the pipeline for future work. I also created the frist launcher for Spin West and maintained the maya environemnt until it was superceded by a much smarter toolset by our Pipeline supervisor

2002 - Murdoch University Division of Business, IT and Law

Taught C339 Advertising Production for the Division of Business, IT and Law in Murdoch University's EM2 Multimedia Marketing Lab. I made up a curriculum and carried the students through the semester as I was completing 3 units during so. I taught students graphic design, video production, Audio production and concepts required in order to fulfil a clients requirements. The aim of the course is to give Business students the ability to know the technology that they are implementing.

At the same time as this course was commencing we had to allow IT to teach Unix on the PowerMac's so I installed Mac OSX and worked with the main Unix Guy, it was rather simple to get OSX authenticating into the Sun Enterprise server through NIS. Of course I did require some instructions from the Unix administrator but this gave me a foot up into the world of Unix.

2000-2002 - Network Technician : Murdoch University Division of Business, IT and Law

In the second week of my first semester I started working as the technical support base for Dr Duane Varan's EM2 Multimedia Marketing lab. Students are taught general graphical work in semester 1 of their Marketing and the Media Degree and advanced Animation in the second.   All students learn ElectricImage Animation System in the second semester. My duties were to maintain all aspects of the Lab technically and I have provided some support for Duane's new ITRI (Interactive Television research Centre). Technical aspects of dealing with the graphics workstations included:

*Maintaining usability of Media100 and ElectricImage Animation Systems

*Maintain Network and Servers

*Maintain the Divisions Mac network across several Faculties

In May of 2001

I was offered a scholarship to represent Murdoch University as the student representative.   Dr Tom Gedeon (Head of IT at Murdoch University) a fellow co-worker put my name forward for nomination, which I accepted. The scholarship was to visit Apple's California base for a conference known as WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) where I met Mr Joe Letteri -Visual Effects Supervisor of ILM. The conference was very intense and lasted 12 days. The Apple University Consortium paid for all my fees, accommodation and living expenses.
